The kitchen is the heart of the home, as they say, and with so much time spent in this room, it’s so important to create a space that feels special and unique, one that’s customized to your specific taste, lifestyle, and needs.

1. Oversized Hoods

Making a statement in your kitchen does not necessarily equal doing something elaborate, and the stunningly sleek and simple oversized hoods we’re seeing more and more of in recent designs are all the proof you need. 

While it may seem a bit odd to see the scale of a hood go beyond the size of the range, this look of a longer, more “stretched-out” hood offers a bespoke feel that actually goes back to the classic European homes that inspired Traditionalism. From smooth marble to shiny copper to plaster and everything in between, your options for achieving this look are limitless.

One added bonus to an oversized hood is the added counter space, as the extension of the hood on either side of your range creates little alcoves on either side of your range you can use for meal prep or to keep cooking utensils.

2. Larger Pantries

In search of a solution for a light-and-airy, decluttered kitchen space? A large pantry is a perfect option. 

Often referred to as a butler’s pantry, this additional space is ideal for holding all of your messes and clutter rather than letting your main kitchen bare it all.

This intimate and cozy scullery is not just for storing food – you can use this space to store small appliances, baking goods, and extra dishes. If you bake a lot, you might consider adding a second oven or dishwasher to this space for extra functionality.

If you’re big on entertaining, this space serves as an excellent out-of-view collection area for used glasses and dishes so you can keep the main kitchen clean while guests are over.

3. Custom Cabinetry & Organization

Speaking of light and airy spaces, another wonderful way to declutter is by opting for custom cabinetry and those special “bells and whistles” that help keep your kitchen organized all of your everyday items from view.

From pull-out canisters, towel hooks, and baking drawers to hidden coffee bars, paper towel holders, and pet bowls, the options are endless for ways to make your kitchen feel special and truly your own.

4. Bringing in Wood Tones with a Standalone Piece

Adding a wooden standalone piece is an easy and unique way to bring wood tones into your kitchen space. If you have an antique or vintage piece you’ve been longing to do something with, this might be your chance!

The piece you choose doesn’t necessarily have to be something you would think goes in the kitchen – hutches are always a win, but even a table or dresser can make your kitchen look special and thoughtfully put together.

Even if your space already features wooden pieces or accents, you can add a standalone piece and mix wood tones for a more organic, natural feel.

5. Mixing Pulls & Knobs

The standard used to be that pulls were used for drawers and knobs for cabinet doors. As we’re entering 2022, we’re seeing these rules are out the window. More recent kitchen designs feature doors with pulls, drawers with knobs, and an eye-catching mix of both throughout the space.

The standard was also to choose a single collection of hardware to use throughout the kitchen – now it’s much more common to mix two, or even three, styles of hardware for a bit more of an eclectic look. Generally speaking, you want to make sure the hardware finishes are the same – some designs do achieve a beautiful mix of finishes, it's just trickier to accomplish if you're also mixing styles. When in doubt, stick with mixing one or the other.

Latches have also become a popular choice of cabinet door hardware. Function is everything, so it’s important to remember that a latch requires you to open both doors, which might not be the best pick for a place where you might frequently only need to open one side or the other – they would be more ideal for cabinets that store bulkier small appliances or other larger kitchen items.

Incorporating a mixed-pull-and-knob look into your space comes down to the functionality of your cabinets and drawers, as well as size – even weight comes into play. Our suggestion is to take time to imagine how different options might work for your space by thinking about how a knob will feel versus a handle or latch before committing to your hardware.

6. Natural Stone

Beauty is often found in the perfectly imperfect. Natural stone, with its intrinsically perfect imperfections, makes for an excellent material that will bring this kind of natural beauty into your kitchen space.

Marble instantly invites a warm, timeless, sophisticated feel into any kitchen, so it’s no surprise we’re continuing to see this material largely used as backsplashes and countertops in this space in 2022.

One specific thing we’re seeing more and more attention paid to is marble countertop edges. Rather than the sleek and simple squared edge, people are opting for the more traditional, Ogee edge to achieve a classic look. We love it! This edge certainly takes the level of sophistication up a notch.

7. Curves

With curves landing on the list of top interior design trends of 2022, we’re taking this opportunity to look more closely at what looks like in the kitchen. And just as a reminder, these aren’t your 80s style curves we’re talking about! These are the timeless curves that truly make a space feel softer and more inviting.

Cabinets & Counters
